Introduction to the Voluntary Sector


This half day course is designed for those who are new to either working in or with the voluntary and community sector.

It will help you understand how the sector works, the various legal forms of organisations, issues of governance and sustainability so that you are able to work more effectively within the sector and understand its funding needs.

We’ll cover:

  • Information on VCS structures and the policies that regulate the sector
  • Issues of governance and management
  • The additionality that the VCS brings to communities across the county
  • The different roles that the VCS plays

Location Notes

Located in the centre of Witham close to rail and bus links.

Entry is not through the main doors but through the Age UK building which is attached to the Public Hall.

There is a large public car park opposite (charges apply) and limited on-street parking in Collingwood Road, including a disabled bay immediately in front of the building. There are further disabled parking spaces in the public car park. Sat-Nav users should use the post code CM8 2DY.

The Public Hall has disabled access to all public areas with the exception of the balcony. The training room is located on the first floor.
