WELCOME TO THE BLENDED VERSION OF OUR DEMENTIA AWARENESS COURSE.
This course consists of 7 guided learning hours, delivered as:
- 6th August, 10am – 11am: Induction session.
- 13th August 10am – 12pm: Session 1.
- 20th August 10am – 12pm: Session 2.
- 27th August 10am – 11am: Consolidation session.
You will be expected to do some guided pre-reading ahead of and in-between some of the sessions, totalling approximately 1 hour.
This is a mainly online course, delivered live by an expert trainer over 4 sessions, all of which must be attended. It will provide delegates with a better understanding of dementia itself, as well as an awareness of the causes, symptoms and impacts of dementia. You will need access to the internet and MS Teams.
What We’ll Cover
- Understand dementia and models of dementia and the areas of the brain that are affected by dementia
- Know types of dementia and their causes
- Understand an individual’s experiences of dementia
- Explore the impact of dementia and attitudes towards individuals with dementia
This course is accredited by Gateway qualifications. You will complete a workbook across the duration of the course, which will be assessed by the trainer. You must provide personal details ahead of the course for the Gateway registration – this will be requested by email by VST after booking.

You will gain a deeper understanding of dementia. This course will benefit professional and personal carers of those with dementia as well as families and communities. You will gain 2 credits on the RQF at level 2.

About the Trainer
Andrew has over 20 years’ experience working within the care sector. Prior to becoming a freelance dementia specialist trainer, he worked with various large organisations to support with their dementia projects and training, such as the Alzheimers’ Society and Care UK.
Andrew educates with knowledge and anecdotes that have grown over time, making his training accessible and interesting, and ultimately, that helps the learning stick.
