NEW! Recruiting and Managing Volunteers with ASD

Overview

This full day course aims to give attendees a greater awareness of autism spectrum disorder and how those on the spectrum can be supported in the voluntary workplace. It will cover aspects of the Equality Act and how reasonable adjustments can be made; the reasons behind why a person with ASD may volunteer and how to carry out pre-placement assessments; recruiting and interviewing in an ASD-friendly way; and strategies to support some of the differences that come with ASD.

We’ll cover:

  • Explain the concept of reasonable adjustments under the Equality Act 2010
  • Explain some of the typical characteristics of ASD
  • Understand the importance of carrying out individual workplace assessments
  • Suggest ways to support the recruitment of volunteers with ASD
  • Identify ways to make adjustments to volunteer job roles and tasks to work to the strengths of people with ASD and to support their needs

Benefits to you
Both you and your volunteer with ASD can feel more confident that you are getting the most out of the volunteering experience. You will be more compliant with the Equality Act and be able to better recruit, support and retain the individuals who volunteer for your organisation.
